made with hopes to try and build a story/world for them
- they are some sort of alien species that formed a parasitic relationship with various lifeforms on earth. only 12 of these beings currently exist. previously there was a 13th, however they have long since died due to inability to adapt to the planet.
- larva pods are sent out to planets in groups of 13, all members are connected by a hive mind until the last of them enters a host.
- process of reproduction is unknown. while they seem to be capable of copulation it, so far, does not seem to lead to reproduction.
- they are capable of blending into humanity but they have one key trait that stands out; their sclera is a pitch black.
- the only exception being in cases of blindness/a 'missing eye' where the empty socket or eye is filled with a pure white eyeball of no features.
- their iris can be any color and tend to give off a luminescence, with the exception of a black iris and blind eye.
- some of them seem to have a less stable fusion with their host impeding on their ability to covertly adapt to the culture and environment easily. (in this case being humanity.)
- despite the level of overt appearance they can shift to a more covert state of being to live among humans. they can also shift to a more non-human and monstrous form that vaguely resembles the host species; they consider this their true nature.
- shifts can be quick or slow depending on how willing they are to shift. unwilling shifts will always be slow.
- those who spend more time in their overt form than the covert human form will have a slow shift back into said humanoid form. vice versa if one is more often in their humanoid form than their overt form.
- despite their nature to assimilate with the planets most formidable species they chose animal hosts, possibly because their DNA could not properly merge with that of humans. (it was this that led to the death of their 13th member)
- their host is assimilated into themselves allowing the memories to give them a rough idea of life on the planet. the host doesn't "die" but its no longer a separate entity either.
- they seem to show some form of power ability, but their abilities are limited in scope.
- their namesake was given to them by their 13th member before their hive mind connection was fully severed.

• each character does also have the ability to shape-shift between their humanoid form and something resembling their host animal, this is not considered one of their two specific abilities.
